The Gomes family has served the construction industry since 1936. Starting out as A Gomes Transport, we quarried and sifted sand by hand.

We bought a property in Hartbeespoort Dam, where we dug out plaster sand and loaded on the trucks by hand. The company subsequently changed its name to Gomes Transport (Pty) Ltd.

The first front-end loader was put on site in Hartbeespoort Dam.

Nineteen-year-old Gerardus Gomes rebuilt a Volvo N88 tipper truck that had been scrapped years earlier. Using this truck, he began sub-contracting for other quarries and trading sand wherever opportunities arose.

We purchased a brand-new Mercedes horse and trailer for R118,000.00. This marked our second truck purchase that year, following a new MAN horse alongside a new CAT 920 front-end loader.

The company did not just supply sand and stone; it also handled rubble removal and earthworks projects.

We purchased a brand-new CAT 930 front-end loader.

Gerardus Gomes operates a CAT 930 front-end loader while constructing a static screen. We built the screen to sift building sand, feeding it with three CAT 930 loaders equipped with 1.3 m³ buckets.

We purchased a power screen to sift building sand in Olifantsfontein, which significantly increased production.

We moved the quarrying operation to Laezonia.

We erected a sand washing plant to produce river sand. Prior to this, we produced river sand by washing it in a concrete mixer—a method that severely limited our production capacity.

We built a sand washing plant at our Hartbeespoort Dam site to wash plaster sand under the name Gomes Sand cc.

We built our first crushing plant at the Laezonia quarry and developed a drill-and-blast pit to produce aggregate, crusher sand, and G1 products. We constructed the plant in two phases, completing the project in 1998.

We moved our operation to land adjacent to our previous Laezonia-based quarry and began trading as Gomes Sand cc. We also reclaimed sand from construction sites using mobile screens.

Crushing plant was put up at the Hartebeesport Dam quarry to produce aggregates and washed plaster sand.
